How it works for restaurants and bars

Want to accept crypto at your restaurant or bar? We set up a simple tablet checkout beside your register, and you get paid in US dollars. Your rates and fees are set by the processor, and we will walk you through every step, from the application to your first live sale and staff training.

We set restaurants and bars up with BitPay Quick Checkout on a SUNMI V3 terminal that sits next to your existing POS. BitPay charges 2% + $0.25 per transaction and settles US dollars to your bank the next business day (BitPay).

If you already run Square, its bitcoin acceptance is another option: 0% through December 31, 2026 and 1% from January 1, 2027, bitcoin only, with a $600 maximum per transaction (Square).

Training for servers covers starting a payment, confirming it's paid before closing the check, and what to do if a guest underpays. Sales tax still applies to the dollar value of the sale; confirm specifics with your CPA. See our guide and salons and med spas.

Your processor and device

Every kit runs on BitPay (2% + $0.25 per transaction, next-business-day USD settlement) with a SUNMI V3 terminal.

Your device: SUNMI V3

  • One standard countertop terminal: SUNMI V3 (GMS) running BitPay Quick Checkout
  • Dealer kits add a Samsung Galaxy tablet as a second customer-facing screen
  • Already have a compatible device? Use your own at the same kit price

Your processor: BitPay

  • 2% + $0.25 per transaction under $500K/month (BitPay pricing)
  • US dollars to your bank the next business day, locked exchange rates, and no chargebacks as a BitPay feature (BitPay)
  • One BitPay merchant account in your business name

Processor fees are set by BitPay and can change. Crypto fees are not always lower than card fees, so we compare against your own statement rate. Processors approve or decline merchants, not us.

FAQ

Can guests tip in crypto?

The guest pays the amount you key in, so include the tip in that amount. Tip handling then follows your normal payroll process.

I use Square. Do I need BitPay?

Not necessarily. Square's bitcoin acceptance caps transactions at $600 and supports bitcoin only. BitPay supports more coins and larger sales. We can help you compare.

Can a restaurant accept crypto without changing its POS?

Yes. BitPay Quick Checkout runs on its own SUNMI V3 terminal next to your register.

Do I have to hold crypto?

No. Payments settle in US dollars, and we never touch your funds.

Will this save me money versus cards?

Not necessarily. Crypto processor fees can be similar to card rates. We compare against your own statement and don't promise savings.
